The Shed

The Shed is a significant presence in the community, its heartbeat, its geographic nexus and a Windfall architectural icon. Rustic and rural but refined, this dramatic barn-like structure, is located mid-point on the Green River, like the village commons one finds in the historic towns of the region. It is where residents gather for an annual corn roast (with corn from the community’s own garden), art exhibits, Canada Day fireworks and Windfall’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony. This indoor–outdoor “social house” is a first for any resort community in Canada. Its many features and amenities include a swimming pool, a playing field, a natural outdoor amphitheatre, a neighbourhood kitchen and dining room, a fitness and workout area, a community sauna, and meeting rooms. The views of the mountain and the bay from the lounge areas on the second floor of The Shed are spectacular.

The Shed was designed for Windfall by Jim Ireland, known for his visually stunning cottages, boathouses and country homes that blend seamlessly into their natural environment. The 19th century-appearing windmill that stands alongside the timber and glass Shed is a symbol of the attention that has been paid throughout Windfall to energy efficiency on one hand and the dynamics of community on the other.

“The lofty, barn-red Shed is both the hub and the heartbeat of the community.”
